aka Japanese Maple

A slow growing Maple, commonly called the Lion's Head Maple as the dense tufts of crinkled foliage on each branch resemble the mane of a lion. The bright green leaves turn golden orange in autumn. Plant in full sun to part shade in moist well drained soil. Deciduous.

This variety was the Maple Society of North America's Maple of the Year in 2019.

Excellent small garden tree with outstanding brilliant red and shrimp pink spring foliage in spring that slowly turns green. In autumn the leaves are once again all fired up in shades of red. Best in morning sun or semi-shade and out of strong wind. Deciduous.

Named after Edward 'Skeeter' Rodd from Pennsylvania who introduced this cultivar in the 1970's. Suitable for container growing.

Oh this is just gorgeous! Rich crimson foliage in spring, deepening in colour as summer progresses. Attractive crimson scarlet shades in autumn. Add to all this the black stems and you have an absolutely stunning feature tree. Happiest with protection from strong winds. Deciduous.

This Maple is considered one of the best for coastal areas though it should still be planted in a sheltered position.
